Delhi Police have arrested three alleged operatives in connection with an extortion racket reportedly linked to fugitive gangster Goldy Brar’s gang. The arrests came during an investigation into separate threats allegedly targeting a Delhi Jal Board contractor in north Delhi and a builder in Rohini.
According to police, both victims received extortion and threat calls from the same UAE mobile number within a gap of three days. The caller allegedly demanded ₹1 crore and threatened the victims and their families with serious consequences if the money was not paid.
Police said the accused had also allegedly arranged four hitmen to fire at the residences of the two victims in an attempt to intimidate them. The plan, however, was reportedly disrupted before the attacks could take place.
The three arrested suspects were identified as Mubarik alias Gullu, 32, from Kairana in Uttar Pradesh; Aarif alias Pistal, 22, from Shamli and currently based in Ahmedabad; and Nawab Ali alias Sonij, 25, from Muzaffarnagar. Police described Mubarik as the alleged main conspirator.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Niharika Bhatt said Mubarik allegedly provided information to Aarif, arranged accommodation for the hired shooters in Delhi’s Kirari area and paid their rent.
The investigation began after the son of a Delhi Jal Board contractor received an extortion call on September 16. The caller allegedly claimed to be associated with Goldy Brar and demanded ₹1 crore. A case involving extortion and criminal intimidation was subsequently registered at Roop Nagar police station.
Technical investigation reportedly identified the caller as Aarish, a resident of Shamli who had travelled to the UAE several months earlier. Police said Aarish allegedly made the threatening call from Dubai after being offered payment by Aarif.
Investigators also found that Aarif allegedly instructed the caller to speak in Haryanvi so that the threat would appear to originate from a local criminal associate.
The investigation later expanded after the brother of a builder received similar threatening calls and an audio message. In the message, the caller allegedly identified himself as Vikrant from Mahendergarh and claimed an affiliation with the Brar gang. A separate case was registered at Vijay Vihar police station.
Police said their investigation uncovered the alleged plan to hire four shooters. Nawab, one of the four alleged hitmen, was among the three suspects arrested.
The investigation is continuing, with police examining the alleged network, the overseas caller and the role of other individuals connected to the extortion threats.
