Expelled Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Akash Anand has appealed to party chief Mayawati for another opportunity to serve the organisation under her leadership, while ruling out any move to join another political party.
Breaking his silence after his expulsion on September 10, Akash addressed Mayawati as “Behen ji” and described her as his political guru, inspiration and “bua-maa”. He said the BSP was not merely a political organisation for him but his family.
“I am not going to any other political party. Neither today nor ever,” Akash said, amid speculation about his political future.
His statement came after leaders from several political parties indicated that they were open to Akash joining their organisations. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav had said the SP would welcome him, while leaders associated with the Congress, Nishad Party and other formations had also made statements about his future.
Akash, however, said he wanted to rebuild his relationship with Mayawati and continue working for the BSP.
A major part of his message focused on Mayawati’s decision to expel his father-in-law and former Rajya Sabha member Ashok Siddharth. Akash said he considered the action justified and expressed his support for Mayawati’s decision.
He also addressed the controversy surrounding his failure to repost a social-media message concerning Siddharth. Akash said he had withdrawn from social media at the time and therefore could not share Mayawati’s post. He apologised if his silence had caused her hurt.
Akash said he wanted another opportunity to serve the BSP and its broader mission under Mayawati’s leadership. He said he would attempt to regain her trust through his conduct and hard work.
Meanwhile, Mayawati has already made an organisational appointment involving Akash’s family. On September 23, she appointed his younger brother, 27-year-old law graduate Ishan Anand, as the BSP’s national coordinator.
The appointment came less than two weeks after Akash’s expulsion and was announced at the BSP’s all-India committee meeting in Lucknow. Mayawati also asked party leaders to focus on Gen Z ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Akash had earlier been projected as Mayawati’s political successor but has faced several changes in his organisational position, including removal and reinstatement.
His latest statement makes clear that, despite his expulsion, he is seeking reconciliation with Mayawati rather than a new political home. His political position within the BSP, however, remains uncertain following the latest developments.
