News desk: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has strongly condemned the detention of its founder Abhijeet Dipke and leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka after they arrived in Delhi by flight on Saturday.
In an official statement, the party alleged that the action was pre-planned and intended to prevent its leadership from participating in the peaceful demonstration scheduled in the national capital.
“This pre-planned interception by the Delhi Police aims to cripple the leadership of today's peaceful demonstrations before they even reach the protest site,” the statement said.
The CJP also accused the police of violating the leaders’ freedom of movement and demanded their immediate and unconditional release.
The detention comes amid heightened security in Delhi ahead of the party’s planned protest at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The demonstration is linked to the controversy surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and demands for greater accountability from the Election Commission.
The party’s statement has intensified the confrontation between the protest organisers and the authorities. The CJP has maintained that its planned demonstration is peaceful, while police restrictions have raised questions about the organisers’ ability to assemble at the proposed venue.
Meanwhile, lawyers marching from the Supreme Court towards Jantar Mantar to protest against the Chief Election Commissioner were also reportedly detained.
The whereabouts of Dipke, Das and Ranka, as well as the formal grounds for their detention, remained unclear in the information available at the time of reporting.
The developments have placed the planned demonstration under fresh scrutiny, with the CJP demanding the release of its leaders and criticising the police action ahead of the protest.
