Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed officials to issue notices to former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and his family members over alleged irregularities in land records near their farmhouse in Erravelli village of Siddipet district.
The decision followed an investigation conducted by a committee headed by Telangana Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju. The inquiry was ordered after Reddy alleged in the state Assembly last month that KCR and his family members possessed land beyond the limits permitted under the Telangana Land Reforms (Ceiling on Agricultural Holdings) Act.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, revenue officials recently surveyed land near KCR’s farmhouse and found a discrepancy involving 45 acres under survey number 325 in Erravelli.
Government records reportedly show 388 acres under the survey number, while the latest survey could identify only 343 acres. This left a difference of 45 acres, prompting the government to order further investigation.
Reddy has directed officials to issue notices to the concerned landholders, including KCR and his family members, and obtain their land records as part of the inquiry. Authorities have also been instructed to identify the missing 45 acres in Erravelli and neighbouring villages.
The Chief Minister further directed officials to take steps to distribute any government land identified under survey number 325 to eligible local farmers.
The issue follows Reddy’s earlier allegations that KCR and his family had encroached upon government land. The latest inquiry is aimed at determining the ownership and status of the disputed land and establishing how the discrepancy in official records occurred.
Separately, Reddy directed the district administration to establish a “martyrs’ colony” for families of people who died during the movement for the creation of Telangana state. The housing department has been tasked with developing the proposed colony.
The Chief Minister instructed officials to complete the project by June 2, Telangana Formation Day.
The latest action against KCR and his family adds to the continuing political and legal tensions between the Congress government led by Revanth Reddy and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi leadership. The land-record inquiry is expected to draw further attention as officials proceed with the notices and verification of ownership documents.
