Rail services connecting several major cities to New Delhi have been disrupted ahead of the planned Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10. Several trains from Uttar Pradesh, Mumbai, Kolkata and other cities have been cancelled or rescheduled, affecting passengers travelling to the national capital.
Railway authorities cited anticipated severe road congestion around New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations between 4 am and 2 pm on Saturday as the reason for the disruptions. Officials have advised passengers to check the latest train updates before beginning their journeys.
Among the major cancellations are the Howrah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express (12301) and the Sealdah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express (12313). Both trains were scheduled to leave Kolkata on Friday and arrive in Delhi on Saturday morning. The Howrah Rajdhani was due to reach New Delhi at 10:05 am, while the Sealdah Rajdhani was scheduled to arrive at 10:50 am.
Several trains connecting Uttar Pradesh with Delhi have also been affected. These include the Prayagraj-New Delhi Prayagraj Express (12417), Prayagraj-New Delhi Humsafar Express (12275), Kanpur Central-New Delhi Shram Shakti Express (12451) and Manikpur-Hazrat Nizamuddin UP Sampark Kranti Express (12447).
The Kanpur Central-New Delhi Shatabdi Express (12033) and Agra Cantt-New Delhi Intercity Express (14211) have also been cancelled for October 10. Several local MEMU and EMU services operating between Aligarh, Dankaur, Khurja, Ghaziabad and Delhi have been affected.
Services from Lucknow and Banaras have also faced disruption. The Lucknow Mail (12229), Lucknow-New Delhi AC Special (12429), Shiv Ganga Express (12559) and Banaras-New Delhi Superfast Express (12581) are among the affected trains. The Kasganj-New Delhi Intercity Express (15303) has also been listed for cancellation.
Meanwhile, two Mumbai-bound Rajdhani services have been rescheduled by five hours. These are the Mumbai Central-New Delhi Rajdhani Express (12951) and Mumbai Central-Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express (12953). Other long-distance services from Mumbai and Madhya Pradesh have also been cancelled.
The planned protest has been called by the CJP and other groups demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls.
Railway officials said refunds would be initiated for passengers booked on cancelled services. Travellers can check their train status through railway helpline 139, the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) app and official railway information channels.
Passengers are advised to verify the latest status of their trains before travelling, as further operational updates may be issued.
