News Desk: Bollywood actor Yami Gautam celebrated Dussehra in a special way this year by participating in the traditional Ravan Vadh ceremony at Delhi’s iconic Luv Kush Ramleela. The actor attended the celebrations at the Red Fort Ground alongside filmmaker-producer Aanand L Rai and symbolically shot an arrow at Ravana’s effigy in front of thousands of spectators.
Videos from the event have been circulating on social media, capturing Yami performing the ritual as part of the Vijayadashami celebrations. Her participation attracted attention not only because of her popularity but also because of its connection to her recent film, Nayyi Navelli, in which she performs a similar act.
Sharing photographs from the event on social media, Yami expressed her happiness at being part of the celebrations. She described the experience of witnessing a sea of people coming together to celebrate Vijayadashami as a beautiful feeling and conveyed her wishes for Dussehra, ending her message with “Jai Shri Ram”.
A celebration with a message of women’s empowerment
This year’s Luv Kush Ramleela carried the theme of “Respect for Women”. According to Arjun Kumar, president of the Luv Kush Ramleela Committee, Yami’s participation was intended to highlight women’s courage, dignity and strength.
Kumar explained that Ravana represents not only a mythological character but also arrogance, injustice and the evils that continue to exist in society. He said the actor’s involvement was meant to underline the important role women play in standing against wrongdoing.
The event was also attended by Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, who performed the traditional Ravan Dahan ceremony. The committee described his presence as an honour and said it added significance to the historic celebration.
Over the years, Delhi’s Luv Kush Ramleela has welcomed several prominent film personalities for its Dussehra festivities, including Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, John Abraham, Prabhas and Kareena Kapoor.
About Yami Gautam’s film Nayyi Navelli
Yami’s appearance at the celebration comes after her recent work in Nayyi Navelli, a horror-comedy featuring Adinath Kothare alongside the actor. Written by Himanshu Sharma and Divy Nidhi Sharma, the film is directed by Balaji Mohan and produced by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma.
The actor has also appeared in Dhurandhar: The Revenge and played the lead role in Haq, a film inspired by the Shah Bano legal case and journalist Jigna Vora’s book Bano: Bharat Ki Beti.
Yami’s participation in the Dussehra festivities brought together cinema and tradition, giving the audience a glimpse of a popular actor taking part in one of the festival’s most recognisable rituals. The occasion also reinforced the celebration’s central message: the triumph of good over evil and the importance of courage, dignity and respect in society.
