Mumbai: Seven people have been arrested in connection with the shooting incident involving Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai’s Juhu area, as investigators continue to examine the alleged network behind the attack. According to police, the investigation has revealed how a pistol and ammunition were transported from Amritsar to Mumbai with the help of intermediaries and two women who allegedly acted as couriers.
The incident took place on October 18, when three shots were fired at Shroff’s car as he was returning home after leaving a football ground in Juhu. The actor escaped unhurt, but his driver and a vlogger standing nearby sustained bullet injuries.
The three alleged shooters fled Mumbai but were later arrested in Kota, Rajasthan. An account linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang subsequently claimed responsibility for the attack and issued threats against people close to actor Salman Khan.
Four more accused arrested
On October 20, Delhi Police arrested four additional accused in connection with the case. They were identified as Kunal, 21, Sumit, 19, Radha, 23, and Babita, 23. The arrests were made in Delhi and Sonipat, taking the total number of arrests in the case to seven.
According to police, Kunal allegedly came into contact with Anil Pandit, who reportedly described himself as an associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Investigators claim that Pandit instructed Kunal to arrange the transportation of a firearm and ammunition from Amritsar to Mumbai.
Police further alleged that Sumit accompanied Kunal, who subsequently recruited Radha and Babita to help move the weapon.
How the ‘dead letter box’ method worked
Investigators believe the pistol was obtained through what is known as a ‘dead letter box’ method. In this arrangement, an item is left at a predetermined location for another person to collect without a direct exchange between the parties involved.
According to Delhi Police, the firearm and 20 rounds of ammunition had been left at a location in Amritsar. Kunal allegedly collected the weapon and arranged for it to be transported to Mumbai.
DCP Praveen Kumar Tripathi of the Delhi Police Special Cell said the accused communicated through an encrypted messaging application. He also stated that Kunal had allegedly received between ₹70,000 and ₹80,000 for facilitating the movement of the weapons, with approximately ₹10,000 to ₹12,000 reportedly paid to the courier.
Weapon allegedly handed over in Mumbai
Police said Kunal put Radha and Babita on a Mumbai-bound train from New Delhi Railway Station on October 15. Radha allegedly carried the pistol in her bag while Kunal remained in contact with the women during the journey.
The two women reportedly reached Dadar on October 17 and checked into a hotel. According to investigators, a boy collected the bag from Radha near the hotel at around 11 am. The shooting took place the following evening.
Police are continuing to investigate the alleged roles of the accused, their connections and the wider network behind the attack. The allegations remain subject to the ongoing investigation and judicial proceedings.
