Two Sisters Killed in Roorkee Days Before Raksha Bandhan

A shocking incident in Uttarakhand’s Roorkee has left a family devastated just days before Raksha Bandhan. A man allegedly shot dead his two sisters and critically injured his brother-in-law in the Gangnahar area on Tuesday night, police said.

The accused has been identified as Vivek Kumar. According to police, he allegedly first went to the home of his sister Pushpa in the Azad Nagar area and shot her. He then reportedly went to the residence of his other sister, Shakuntala, in Ganeshpur’s Preet Vihar Colony. There, he allegedly opened fire at Shakuntala and her husband.

Both sisters died at the scene from their injuries. Shakuntala’s husband was seriously injured in the attack and was taken to hospital, where his condition was reported to be critical.

The incident took place only a few days before Raksha Bandhan, a festival that celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters. The timing of the tragedy has added to the shock surrounding the case.

After the shootings, the accused allegedly fled from the area. Police teams reached the locations after receiving information and began an investigation. Initial reports said raids were being conducted at several places to trace and apprehend him.

Later reports from local media said police had arrested the accused. However, authorities have not publicly established the complete motive behind the killings in the initial investigation. Reports have mentioned possible family-related disagreements, but the exact circumstances and reason for the attack remain subject to the police investigation.

The incident has caused widespread concern in Roorkee, with residents shocked by the violence within a family. Police are continuing to investigate the sequence of events and the circumstances that allegedly led to the attack.

Authorities are also expected to record statements from the injured brother-in-law and other people connected with the family as part of the investigation. The case has once again highlighted the devastating consequences that can follow unresolved family disputes and violence.

With Raksha Bandhan approaching, the tragedy has cast a shadow over celebrations in the area. Further details are expected as the police investigation progresses.
