Yash-starrer Toxic has crossed the ₹300 crore mark worldwide, but the film is struggling to maintain momentum at the box office. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film had a strong opening but has witnessed a steep decline in collections since its release.
Toxic opened in theatres on August 26 and recorded an impressive worldwide collection of more than ₹140 crore on its first day. The opening was among the biggest ever for a Kannada film and raised expectations for a strong theatrical run.
However, the film failed to maintain the initial momentum. Negative reviews and mixed word-of-mouth appeared to affect audience interest, resulting in a significant drop in daily collections.
On its sixth day, Toxic earned only around ₹7.45 crore net in India, according to the figures cited by Hindustan Times. This represented a sharp fall of nearly 70 per cent from its Sunday collection and was also significantly lower than its opening-day performance.
With the latest figures, the film's six-day domestic collection has reached around ₹221.55 crore net, while its domestic gross stands at approximately ₹264.80 crore.
The overseas market has also seen a major slowdown. Toxic earned slightly more than $2 million internationally on its opening day, but its daily overseas collection dropped to just above $200,000 by the sixth day. Its total overseas earnings have crossed $4 million.
Combining its domestic and international earnings, the film has now collected around ₹304 crore worldwide.
Despite crossing the ₹300 crore milestone, Toxic still faces a challenging run ahead. At its current pace, reaching ₹300 crore domestically could be difficult, while its worldwide total remains behind several other major releases.
The film has also been compared with Adipurush and Peddi, both of which earned more worldwide despite being considered underperformers. Peddi reportedly ended its theatrical run with around ₹340 crore, while Adipurush collected approximately ₹350 crore worldwide.
Toxic stars Yash alongside Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara Sutaria. The film has attracted attention not only for its star cast but also for its mature themes and intimate scenes. It received an A certificate from the CBFC without cuts.
The coming days will be crucial for Toxic as the film attempts to recover from its sharp post-opening decline and strengthen its position at the global box office.
