A 40-year-old man was beaten to death by two men in the early hours of Sunday in East Delhi’s Mayur Vihar Phase 3, police said. The incident took place near a Durga temple, opposite a local MLA’s office, under the jurisdiction of New Ashok Nagar police station.
According to investigators, the victim was initially seen standing and talking with the two accused before an argument allegedly turned violent. The attackers reportedly assaulted him with wooden logs and sticks, causing fatal injuries. Police reached the spot after receiving information, cordoned off the area and launched an investigation.
The identities of the deceased and the two accused have not yet been established. Officers are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas and speaking to local residents to identify those involved.
A security guard, Nandlal Yadav, who witnessed the attack, tried to intervene and stop the assailants. However, he claimed the two men threatened to kill him as well. “I saw the incident around 4 am. There were two men, and they even threatened to kill me when I tried to stop them,” Yadav told reporters.
Police said the eyewitness immediately alerted authorities after the attackers fled the scene. Forensic teams have collected evidence from the location, and officials are working to reconstruct the sequence of events.
The murder has shocked residents of Mayur Vihar, as the crime occurred in a public place close to a temple and government offices. Security in the area has been increased while police continue their search for the suspects.
In a separate murder case in Delhi, police recently arrested a 64-year-old man and his 49-year-old associate for allegedly killing the man’s 38-year-old son. Investigators said the victim, who reportedly suffered from schizophrenia, was lured to an abandoned shipping container near the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, where he was attacked with a stone and later strangled.
Authorities said both investigations are ongoing, and further details will be shared once the accused are identified and questioned. Police have appealed to anyone with information about the Mayur Vihar incident to come forward and assist the investigation.
