Ishan Kishan produced a remarkable innings in the Duleep Trophy 2026 final, scoring an unbeaten 250 before retiring hurt and helping East Zone strengthen its position against South Zone.
The East Zone captain resumed play on Monday with 111 runs and went on to complete a historic double century. His innings made him only the seventh batter to score 200 or more in a Duleep Trophy final.
Kishan also created history for East Zone. Before his innings, Wriddhiman Saha held the record for the highest individual score by an East Zone batter in a Duleep Trophy final, with 170 against Central Zone in the 2012 final. Kishan surpassed that mark before reaching 200.
His performance also broke a long-standing record among wicketkeepers. Dinesh Karthik had scored 183 for South Zone against West Zone in the 2010 final, the previous highest score by a wicketkeeper in a Duleep Trophy final. Kishan went past that score and became the first wicketkeeper to score a double century in a Duleep Trophy final.
As captain and wicketkeeper of East Zone, Kishan also became the first captain-wicketkeeper to reach 200 in the tournament's final.
The 250-run knock placed Kishan among the highest individual scorers in Duleep Trophy final history. Raman Lamba's 320 remains the highest score, followed by Yashasvi Jaiswal's 265 and Cheteshwar Pujara's unbeaten 256.
Kishan's innings is particularly notable because of his previous ODI double century. He had scored 210 against Bangladesh in 2022. With his latest feat, he became the first player to score a double century in an ODI and also in a Duleep Trophy final.
The innings was also his 10th first-class century converted into a double hundred. His first-class career-best remains 273, scored for Jharkhand against Delhi in the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy.
Kishan eventually retired hurt after reaching 250, but his innings had already given East Zone a commanding position in the final. His performance is likely to strengthen discussions around his prospects of returning to India's setup across formats.
For East Zone, the innings was not just a personal milestone for Kishan but one of the most memorable batting performances in the team's Duleep Trophy history.
