An Indian woman living in Ireland has sparked a conversation online after sharing her experience of the country's traffic and driving culture. In an Instagram video, Deepali Thukral said that traffic does not necessarily have to mean stress, and that patience and respect for road rules can make driving much safer.
Thukral explained that Ireland also has busy roads and traffic, but she noticed a major difference in how motorists behave. According to her, drivers generally stay in their lanes, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and avoid unnecessary honking.
She also highlighted the way Irish motorists treat pedestrians. When someone is crossing the road, drivers wait patiently until the pedestrian has completely crossed, even if the traffic signal has already turned green.
Another behaviour that caught her attention was the way people follow traffic signals even when the roads are empty. She said that motorists continue to wait at a red light instead of ignoring the signal simply because there are no other vehicles around.
According to Thukral, this sense of discipline creates a very different atmosphere on the roads. She said that stepping out in the morning can feel calm rather than chaotic when drivers are patient and follow basic rules.
Her main point was that the amount of traffic is not always what causes stress. Instead, she believes that poor driving behaviour, unnecessary honking, aggressive lane changes and a lack of respect for pedestrians can make roads feel dangerous.
“Traffic exists everywhere, but respect on the road makes all the difference,” was the central message of her post.
The video has drawn attention because it highlights a familiar issue for many Indians living abroad: the difference in road discipline and driving habits between countries.
While traffic congestion is a common problem in cities around the world, Thukral's experience suggests that better adherence to basic traffic rules can significantly change how people experience busy roads.
Her observations have also sparked discussion online about the importance of patience, lane discipline, maintaining safe distances and giving pedestrians priority.
The video serves as a reminder that safer roads are not only about better infrastructure. Responsible driving and respect for other road users can also play a major role in making everyday travel less stressful and more predictable.
