An IndiGo flight travelling from Doha to Bengaluru was diverted to Muscat, Oman, on Thursday after a member of the operating crew urgently required medical attention.
The flight was redirected to Muscat so that the crew member could receive immediate medical care. According to IndiGo, a medical team attended to the crew member after the aircraft landed in Oman.
The airline said an alternative aircraft and a fresh crew had been arranged to continue the journey to Bengaluru.
“An alternate aircraft along with a new set of crew has been arranged to continue the journey to Bengaluru,” IndiGo said in a statement. The airline also apologised to passengers for the inconvenience and said efforts were being made to minimise the disruption.
Passengers waiting at Muscat airport were provided refreshments and regular updates while arrangements were made for the onward journey. IndiGo reiterated that the safety of passengers, crew and aircraft remained its highest priority.
The airline did not disclose further details about the crew member’s medical condition.
The diversion comes a day after another IndiGo flight faced an emergency situation in Goa. A flight bound for Delhi reportedly made an emergency landing at Goa airport following a technical problem. People familiar with the matter said one of the aircraft’s engines had failed, prompting the flight to return to the airport.
The latest incident has resulted in another interruption involving an IndiGo flight, although the circumstances in the two cases were different. While the Doha-Bengaluru flight was diverted because a crew member required medical attention, the Goa incident was linked to a reported technical problem.
For passengers on the Doha-Bengaluru service, the airline said the alternate aircraft and crew would take over the journey once arrangements were completed in Muscat.
