Delhi Traffic Police has issued a detailed traffic advisory ahead of the BRICS Summit 2026, warning commuters about diversions and regulated traffic movement across several parts of the national capital.
A motorcade rehearsal is scheduled for Wednesday, September 9, from 7 pm to 10 pm, during which traffic restrictions and diversions are expected on several important routes. The BRICS Summit will be held at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, from September 11 to 13.
The advisory covers 22 diversion points and more than 35 roads, including Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Tees January Marg, Mathura Road, Janpath, Ashoka Road, Barakhamba Road, Tolstoy Marg, Niti Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Kemal Ataturk Marg and APJ Abdul Kalam Road.
Traffic police have also issued alternate routes for passengers travelling to and from New Delhi, Old Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations.
For New Delhi Railway Station, commuters can use routes through ISBT Kashmiri Gate, Boulevard Road, Rani Jhansi Marg, DBG Road and Panchkuian Road. Alternative routes have also been suggested through Ashram Chowk, Ring Road and Raj Ghat.
For Old Delhi Railway Station, routes via Ring Road, Hanuman Mandir, S.P. Mukherjee Marg and Rani Jhansi Flyover have been recommended. Passengers travelling to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station can use routes through AIIMS, Ring Road, Ashram Chowk and Mathura Road.
Metro recommended for airport travel
Delhi Traffic Police has strongly advised passengers travelling to the airport to use the Metro during the advisory period. Road-based alternate routes have been provided for travellers coming from Gurugram, Dwarka, New Delhi, South Delhi, West Delhi, North Delhi and East Delhi.
The Metro is expected to remain operational at all stations, although bus routes may be diverted during VVIP movements. Taxis and autorickshaws will also face restrictions on roadside parking and may be diverted when required.
Traffic police have asked commuters to allow extra travel time, particularly when travelling to airports, railway stations and ISBTs. People have been advised to follow designated diversion routes and use public transport wherever possible.
Non-destined commercial vehicles will not be allowed to enter Delhi during the restrictions. Roadside parking within 200 metres of controlled roads will also be prohibited.
Emergency and medical vehicles will receive priority, with authorities ensuring obstruction-free movement across the city. Essential services and utility operations are also expected to continue without interruption.
