A 26-year-old woman in Bhubaneswar has alleged that she was sexually assaulted inside her rented home after an unidentified masked man allegedly entered the residence and threatened her with a gun.
According to the complaint filed with the police, the incident took place late on Wednesday night. The woman told investigators that she was alone at home when the alleged intruder entered the premises. She alleged that the man was wearing a mask, threatened her with a firearm and then sexually assaulted her.
Bhubaneswar Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the allegations. Officers are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident, including how the alleged intruder entered the house and whether he had any previous connection with the woman.
Police sources said a suspect has been detained for questioning in connection with the case. However, authorities have not publicly disclosed the person's identity or confirmed whether the detained individual is the alleged perpetrator.
Bhubaneswar DCP Saravana Vivek M said investigators had obtained important leads and were working to resolve the case.
“We have got vital clues. The case will be solved soon. The case is under investigation,” the DCP told NDTV.
Investigators are examining the woman's statement and other available evidence to establish the sequence of events. Police are also looking into whether there were signs of forced entry at the residence.
According to information emerging from the investigation, the woman lives with her elderly sister in a residential area of Bhubaneswar. Her sister was reportedly away from home when the alleged incident occurred, leaving the woman alone.
The owner of the property, who reportedly lives on the first floor, said he was unaware of what had allegedly happened at the time.
A major focus of the investigation is determining whether the alleged attacker was a stranger or someone known to the woman. Police are examining her account and other evidence to establish whether there had been any previous acquaintance or interaction between the two.
Investigators are also expected to examine CCTV footage and other surveillance material from the area. Such evidence could help establish the movements of people near the residence around the time of the alleged incident.
Forensic and other evidence connected to the house is also being examined as part of the investigation. Police are expected to compare available evidence with the woman's statement before drawing conclusions about the identity and role of any suspect.
Authorities have so far not released details that could affect the investigation.
The case remains under investigation, and police have not publicly established the guilt of any individual. The allegations will have to be verified through the investigation and due legal process.
Further details are expected as investigators examine the available evidence and question the detained suspect.
