Patna witnessed a fresh protest on Saturday as workers of the Azad Samaj Party (Kanshiram) and Bhim Army took to the streets over alleged irregularities in the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) examination process. The protesters gathered at Gandhi Maidan and raised slogans against the Bihar government, demanding action over the concerns raised by BPSC aspirants.
The demonstration comes amid growing anger among students and job aspirants in Bihar over the conduct of competitive examinations and the recruitment process. Protesters alleged that candidates, particularly those from economically weaker sections, have faced unfair treatment. They demanded greater transparency in the examination system and action against those responsible for any irregularities.
The protesters also demanded the cancellation of the examination process and called for the resignation of the state Education Minister. According to reports from the protest site, the groups planned to march towards Raj Bhavan to press their demands.
Security arrangements were tightened around Gandhi Maidan as a large number of police personnel were deployed. Barricades were placed to prevent protesters from moving towards restricted areas. Tensions reportedly increased when some demonstrators attempted to cross the barricades, leading to a confrontation with police.
The latest protest is part of a wider student agitation in Bihar over recruitment examinations. Earlier this week, hundreds of BPSC aspirants marched through Patna, demanding the cancellation and re-conduct of the 70th BPSC examination over allegations including paper leaks and other irregularities. Police used water cannons to disperse protesters after barricades were breached, and several people were detained.
The controversy has also intensified following remarks by BPSC Examination Controller Rajesh Kumar Singh while responding to allegations surrounding the 70th BPSC examination. His comments triggered further criticism from protesting students and opposition groups.
Meanwhile, the BPSC has maintained that there is no question of cancelling the examination, even as protests continue. The dispute has become a major issue for Bihar's aspirants, with demands for a transparent recruitment system and fair examination procedures gaining momentum.
With the Azad Samaj Party and Bhim Army now joining the agitation, pressure on the Bihar government is likely to increase as protesters continue to demand answers and corrective action.
