Arbeloa calls for courage as Fulham chase first Premier League points

Fulham head coach Alvaro Arbeloa has called for greater courage, ambition and attacking intent as he looks to change the club’s fortunes after a difficult start to the 2026-27 Premier League season.

Fulham have lost all three of their opening league matches under Arbeloa. Their next challenge comes against Liverpool on Saturday, with the London club hoping to finally get points on the board.

Speaking to JioStar, Arbeloa said he wants his team to develop a clear identity built around attacking football, bravery in possession and aggression when they lose the ball.

The former Spain and Real Madrid defender said Fulham must show personality and passion in every match rather than allowing results to affect their approach.

“I want a team with a clear identity. I want to see a team that plays with courage and with personality,” Arbeloa said. He added that his side should be offensive and brave with the ball while remaining aggressive without it.

The manager also stressed the need for his players to maintain ambition despite their poor start. For Arbeloa, the immediate priority is to create a team that competes with intensity and gives everything on the pitch.

Fulham were also active in the transfer market during the summer after losing several important players from last season. Arbeloa said the club showed ambition by bringing in players who could strengthen the squad and fit his tactical approach.

However, he acknowledged that new signings need time to settle. Building understanding between the newcomers and existing players will be important as Fulham attempt to improve their performances.

“The sooner they settle in, the better,” Arbeloa said, highlighting the importance of developing chemistry within the squad and ensuring that players understand each other’s movements.

He believes the new group can become a strong unit if they quickly adapt to the team’s style and expectations.

The Liverpool match will provide an early test of whether Fulham can respond to their disappointing beginning. Facing one of the league’s strongest sides, Arbeloa will be looking for signs of the attacking personality and mentality he has demanded from his players.

With the season still in its early stages, Fulham have plenty of time to recover. But after three consecutive defeats, Arbeloa knows that his team needs to start turning its ambition into results, beginning with Saturday’s meeting with Liverpool.
