Air India Express has introduced new uniforms for its cabin crew and frontline employees, giving its teams a fresh look while drawing inspiration from India’s diverse traditional art and textile heritage.
The new uniforms were rolled out from September 1 for cabin crew, airport services, aviation security and flight operations teams. The airline said the new designs are part of its ongoing transformation and are intended to create a more consistent experience for passengers across different touchpoints.
The uniforms are linked to Air India Express’ ‘Tales of India’ initiative, through which the airline has been showcasing India’s indigenous art forms, crafts and cultural traditions. Its aircraft tails also feature artwork inspired by different regions of the country.
The same idea has been carried into the new uniforms. According to the airline, the designs draw inspiration from Tamil Nadu’s Kanjeevaram, Himachal Pradesh’s Pattu, Gujarat’s Patola, Assam’s Gamosa and Madhya Pradesh’s Bagh traditions.
The outfits combine these cultural influences with modern designs. Contemporary silhouettes inspired by the traditional kurti have been paired with tailored jackets, scarves and pocket squares, creating a look that blends Indian elements with modern airline styling.
Sunil Suresh, head of marketing, e-commerce and loyalty at Air India group, said frontline employees play an important role in shaping passengers’ experiences. He said the uniforms were designed to reflect their professionalism, energy and warmth while combining cultural authenticity with comfort and functionality.
The colour scheme is based around Air India Express’ Xpress Blue, complemented by its signature Xpress Orange. The airline said the colours help strengthen the connection between its brand identity and the passenger experience.
Another feature of the project is that much of the design work was carried out in-house. Air India Express designer Pooja Krishnan led the design of uniforms for female cabin crew, airport services, aviation security and flight operations staff.
The men’s cabin crew uniform was developed in collaboration with Trent Limited.
The uniforms have been made using banana crepe fabric, which the airline said offers breathability, durability and comfort while maintaining a neat appearance. The material is intended to meet the practical demands of employees who work long hours in busy airport and aircraft environments.
With the new designs, Air India Express is seeking to give its frontline teams a more distinctive appearance while bringing elements of India’s regional cultures into everyday airline operations.
The airline said the overall collection is designed to allow employees to work comfortably and confidently while presenting a warm and culturally connected image to passengers.
